Becoming ill while on a cruise is a reality that is unfortunate but can be avoided if the appropriate steps are taken beforehand. First, make sure to be up to date on basic vaccinations as well as those required for all ports of call. Wash your hands with soap and water before you eat, after using the bathroom, changing a diaper and after touching things others touch. Try to avoid touching your face and avoid using the ships public restrooms. Eat only cooked food when it’s hot and drink from sealed containers while on shore excursions. Pack extra prescription medications for chronic conditions and purchase travel insurance that includes medical evacuation in case of an emergency. And lastly, if you feel ill prior to the cruise, STAY HOME!
