A deposit is always needed to book any trip in order to guarantee the price and secure the arrangements however the amount of the deposit is not determined by the travel professional who is securing the booking. The deposit amount is determined by the individual suppliers based on how much they are willing to accept to save a place for each traveler and therefore can vary greatly. Some of the determining factors used by the suppliers include how far in advance the booking is made, current availability for the specified time, popularity of the destination and supplier agreements. In addition, current airlines trends have been requiring full payment of the fare to secure seats on flights. But regardless of the amount of the deposit and subsequent payments, if the balance is not paid by the due date, guarantee of price and any arrangements are forfeited and may not be able to be re-booked.
