Taiwan lies off the coast of mainland China, directly on the Tropic of Cancer. It is home to Mount Yushan (Jade Mountain) which is the highest peak in northeast Asia. Taiwan recognizes 14 indigenous groups, all of which have their own distinct languages. Together with these groups, Taiwan has a well blended culture with influence from the Fujianese, Hakka immigrants, the Dutch, Spanish and Japanese.
