There are many star ratings floating around on the internet today, everything from ratings based on subjective opinions of consumers to rigorously vetted ratings based on stringent point systems. But most consumers have a good idea of what to expect based on the American star rating system established by the Mobil gas company. However, American hotel ratings are vastly different abroad. Therefore a 3 star hotel overseas may be the equivalent of your run of the mill, pay by the hour motels here. Know what you are getting yourself into if booking on your own. Otherwise, seek out a travel professional who can steer you in the right direction.
