Travel visas are stamps or stickers placed inside of a passport to allow the owner of that passport access into a foreign country. They are required by some countries while not by others. The procedure on how to obtain them is determined by the policy makers of the individual country and therefore varies.  If you are planning a trip out of the country, it is best to find out if a visa is required prior to booking the trip so that you may have enough time to follow the appropriate procedure to obtain one. In the event you have to mail your actual passport to get a visa, send it with a tracking label and pay extra to have it returned the same way to avoid losing your passport in the mail. Lastly, if you attempt to enter a country that requires a visa be obtained prior to your arrival without one, you may be put back on the plane and not allowed entrance into that country.
