Taking taxis abroad is much different than taking them in North America and Western Europe. In fact, it may be dangerous in some cases. When traveling, do research ahead of time for best ways to travel around town. Local airport and government websites should give advice on safe transportation options as well as average pricing. Use reputable companies and services recommended by the hotel concierge. Negotiate the price ahead of time, using the hotel concierge or a local person if you do not speak the language. Lastly, have a functioning cell phone with local police and emergency numbers saved should you become endangered.
