A cruise is a cruise, right? Wrong! All cruises are not made equal and here are the basic differences between standard and luxury cruising. Standard cruises generally offer small inside cabins, buffet food with lemonade, ice tea and water and large scale Vegas-style entertainment. Often not included are specialty restaurants, beverages (sodas, juices and alcohol), shore excursions and gratuity. Luxury cruises offer all suite cabins with outside views/balconies, all inclusive gourmet food and beverages (alcoholic and non alcoholic), higher quality of service staff without added gratuity, shore excursions and low-key, sophisticated ambiance.  These ships also tend to be smaller making it much easier to get on/off the ship at port of calls.
